Disconnected

I spent most of last week camping up in the Laguna Mountains of Southern California. No cell phone. No internet. No computer.

I was completely disconnected from my gadgets.

And you know what? I had a wonderful time.

It was nice to be able to breathe the cool, clean mountain air - listening to the wind blow through the tall pine and oak trees.

Each night we'd gather round the camp fire and talk, sing, and gaze up at the zillions of stars that have always been there, but that we usually can't see due to the light pollution and smog of the big city.

We went on a short 1.5 mile hike and saw some spectacular views of the surrounding area and the Colorado Desert to the east. We liked it so much we hiked the trail again the next day.

I found the experience to be quite refreshing and invigorating, and it helped me to regain some perspective.

Sometimes we get so caught up in our gadgets, computers, TV, movies, internet, etc. that we forget to stop and really enjoy the small and simple things in life.

Try going "disconnected" for a day or two. You'd be surprised at how cool it can be.
